ELEMENTS (Fire-Earth-Water-Air)
Description
Sandro Del Rosario’s animations “Hand-Wind” and “Hand-Fire” highlight the impact of environmental disaster on personal and collective memories. They are part of the five AR pieces created with the artist Gianluca Abbate for the collaborative pilot project ELEMENTS. The project was funded by the TRANSFORM international research partnership led by Prof. Sarah Burch, Director, with the participation of researchers from the Climate Institute at the University of Waterloo, as well as of Bepart, a group of Italian tech entrepreneurs active in the public and social space. ELEMENTS explores different facets of transformation due to global environmental change and extreme weather events. The animations invite us to reflect on the intricate relationships between human agency, environmental change, and social dynamics, and use the four elements of water, earth, air and fire and their extreme expressions in our natural environment: floods, mudslides, hurricanes and forest fires.
