Description

How can we understand change on a global scale? Is it possible to frame our individual actions in the framework of larger, massive changes across our planet? These questions are at the core of Adam Fung’s film project fathom.
Fung seeks to pull viewers into a hazy, foreboding Arctic state of being. As we navigate these spaces full of diffused, refracted light, viewers must decipher a path forward across a shifting landscape of Arctic imagery.
Fung’s pacing of what is revealed, and masked, reflects dreamlike movement with deep, concerning undertones. Fung collaborated with composer John Paul Thompson to create an original, haunting sound work that adds to the sublime tone. Positioned across three spaces, viewers must traverse these beautiful, dissolving, fraught encounters on a passage of revelation. The dark oracle that awaits may spur some to action, but certainly speaks to not only the fragile state of the Arctic, but also human kind.
